Remembering Miss Ni Chomhrai
Last Friday we were informed of the very sad news of the passing of Miss Ni Chomhrai, a much loved and respected member of our Castletown staff. Following a diagnosis of Stage 4 Glioblastoma in 2022, Miss Ni Chomhrai bravely faced this illness with the upmost courage, determination and always with a positive smile. Her passion and love for our school and the pupils was unequivocal throughout her career and she continued to shine out this love despite the health challenges she faced over recent years.
Miss Ni Chomhrai began working at Castletown Primary School in 2005 and was a much-loved member of staff to her colleagues, governors, pupils and their families. Over the past twenty years Miss Ni Chomhrai fostered close links with our school community, establishing a love of learning for the children in school and nurturing them wholeheartedly on their educational journey.
An exceptional teacher, her passion for music and singing was infectious and this enabled countless children of Castletown Primary, both past and present, to flourish in relation to school productions, performances and our school choir. Who could forget the fabulous achievements of being repeated ‘City Sings Choir’ champions and the many fabulous choir performances she produced over the years! It really was a privilege to see her working with our children and to witness the impact she had on them both in terms of building confidence and equipping them with valuable life skills. As a teacher she was, as one of our pupils described to me, simply ‘one in a million’.
I understand that the news of Miss Ni Chomhrai’s passing will have deeply saddened many of you, as it has her colleagues in school. She will undoubtedly be a huge miss to our school and we are incredibly thankful for having had the opportunity of her service and contribution at Castletown Primary over the years. Miss Ni Chomhrai was not only a gifted teacher but a very special friend to many. She was loved by so many people and she will be so sadly missed.
On a final note can I just say, thank you Miss Ni Chomhrai for your contribution to our school, thank you for your passion for education, thank you for your commitment to the children you nurtured so well, thank you for your friendship and finally, in the words of one of one of your favourite bands ABBA – thank you for the music! Our thoughts and prayers remain with Miss Ni Chomhrai’s family and friends at this sad time.
‘Eternal rest grant onto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.’
Yours sincerely,
Mr. L. J. Duncan (Headteacher)
