Message from Mrs Lumsdon

26 May 2020 (by admin)

Hello Everyone. As promised here is the next update about how we are moving things forward at Castletown.

Over the last 10 days we have contacted personally all parents of Nursery, Reception, Y1 and Y6 children to gather thoughts as to whether or not you would be happy to return your children to school before the summer holidays, were we to reopen.

Response from parents was overwhelming and, based on what you told us, school leaders and governors have made the following decisions.

  • On Monday 1st June 25/53 Y6 children will be returning to school.

  • There are a small number of parents who wish their Nursery age children to return to school and we will contact them personally to organise when and how that will happen (unlikely to be in the next 2 weeks).

  • We will not be reopening for Reception or Y1 classes before September.

School governors and I always said that we would be responsive to your wishes and these decisions reflect what you told us. We will be looking at how we can possibly reopen to other year groups before the end of term.

School will of course remain open for all key worker and vulnerable children, irrespective of age group, for the rest of the school year.

We will be contacting the parents of Y6 children who are returning to school to explain how we will manage the process.

Now we have children returning to school, please be aware that the school car park will be closed to ALL parents as from Monday 1st June.

We are very aware that, if we all get back to school in September, children and parents will naturally be anxious about moving into new classes with unfamiliar staff. We have decided that for the first 2 weeks of the Autumn term, children (except Y6) will return to their current classes where they will be in familiar surroundings with teachers they know. During those 2 weeks we will organise opportunities for children to meet their new teachers and organise transition into their new year groups by the 3rd week of term.

We will continue to update you with further information as decisions are made or more guidance is given to us. Rest assured that we will always do the best we can to support your children and to keep them as safe as we possibly can. Thank you all so much for your overwhelming support and understanding of how we are managing things at Castletown in these unprecedented times.
