Mini Police

Our Year 5 school Mini Police help to keep our school and community safe while learning all about the important work the police do.

We work with Northumbria Police and support them at key events, such as Remembrance Day and the Sunderland 10K city run.

We also get the chance to learn about different parts of policing, like Police Horses, Traffic Police, Armed Response and even the police helicopter!

We feel privileged to have such an important role in school and love being able to promote all the good work the police do to help keep everyone safe.

Police Helicopter

Our Mini Police have had the best morning visiting the police at Newcastle Airport in March. Everyone heard about the important role NPAS has in keeping us all safe and we all got the chance to explore the police helicopter.

Traffic Police

In January, Northumbria Police's Traffic Police unit came for a visit to the school. Our Mini Police squad were given the chance to find out what the life of a traffic officer is like, see a police car and even sit on a motorbike!

Police Horses

Our Mini Police team were visited by four-legged officers - the Police Horses.

Remembrance Sunday

Our community came together for Remembrance Sunday at Castletown Methodist Church and cemetery. Pupils from our Mini Police, Scouts and other groups were in attendance.

Sunderland Runs

Our 2025 mini police officers did a brilliant job helping the organisers at the Sunderland Runs 3km, 10km and half marathon races. They helped to set up the stands with gift bags for all the runners and handed out medals to those taking part. They also had a chat with the mayor.

The children were amazing ambassadors for the school and we’re incredibly proud of them for their hard work and excellent conduct.

Visit to Northumbria Police's Marine Unit

The Marine Unit in Jarrow covers the North East coastline from Berwick to Seaham and across to Kielder. It can also be called upon by police forces across the country due to their specialist skills. Our Mini Police officers visited the site on the banks of the River Tyne to see the operation. They had a fantastic and informative visit - seeing the range of boats, vehicles and specialist equipment, such as the decompression tank.
